Shirley Owens: Hello and welcome back. Today, I'm reflecting on my convo with Bettina Gordon-Wayne. We talked about age, and since then, I've been really thinking about age. And it's such a funny thing because when you're young, you can't wait to grow up. When you're old, you wish you were young. 16, 18 and 21 are milestones, and rites of passage. Middle-age causes a crisis. When you're 40, you're over the hill. And at 50, you're half of a century. 55, you're a senior citizen. 60's, are the new 40's. There's always a reason to get older or wish you were younger. I'm 49, and I hear all the time that I don't look a day past 35, yet something inside of me is grateful and happy that others would think that. I've never had anyone say, I look older or even my age, but there's this small amount of dread each time. there's a pause before the guests that someone might actually guess right, or heaven forbid older. Why is that? What would life be like if we completely embraced whatever age we were, and even better created some excitement within us to look forward to growing old.

This week, I would have you ponder your age. Write down all the things that you can possibly think of that you fear or dread about it. Make a list of those, and then make a list of all the positive things you can think of about your age. Then I want you to mentally throw your negative list away, because in reality, most of the things you fear aren't real, they're just stigmas and stories you've been told. Look into your future and think, when I'm 20, I can do this. When I'm 30. I can do that. And so on, and so on. Start focusing on the positive of growing old and really enjoying, knowing that you were going to make every year count from this day forward. Not looking back and wishing you were there, not fearing the future, but embracing every day in creating an exciting and adventurous life moving forward. I am going to take my own advice. I love you all so much. Have an amazing week filled with gratitude for the life he's lived and for the life you will continue to live. See you next Tuesday.
